Scooter and motorbike rental prices in Thailand
Small 125–160cc automatic scooters start from 300 THB per day and are the practical choice for most city and island trips. Larger 300–350cc scooters are usually 900–990 THB per day and offer more comfort for two riders, hills and longer distances. High-capacity 560–750cc motorbikes are around 2,000 THB per day and should only be rented by riders experienced with that class.
The exact rate depends on the location, model and rental length. Weekly and monthly bookings often have a lower average daily price. Fuel, optional extras and the refundable cash deposit are separate unless the listing states otherwise.
Which scooter should you rent?
For everyday riding, a 125–160cc automatic is usually enough. It is easy to park, economical and suitable for paved roads when ridden by someone with motorcycle experience. A 300–350cc maxi scooter can be more comfortable for a passenger, luggage, steep roads or longer journeys.
Choose based on your real riding experience, not only engine size or appearance. A larger bike is heavier at low speed and less forgiving in traffic, rain and tight parking areas. If you have never ridden a motorcycle, Thailand is not a safe place to learn; use public transport, taxis or local ride-hailing services instead.
Licence, deposit and rental documents
To ride legally in Thailand, you need a valid motorcycle licence and an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle endorsement. A car licence does not cover scooters. Helmets are required for the rider and passenger.
Rentals listed on Rentbox require a passport copy and a refundable cash deposit, commonly 5,000–10,000 THB depending on the model. You keep your original passport. Before leaving, check the tyres, brakes, lights and fuel level, and record photos or a short video of the bike's condition.
