Delivery in Chiang Mai
We arrange drop-off at your hotel or guesthouse in the Old City, Nimman and Santitham on qualifying bookings. Confirm the address when you request the bike. Shorter rentals, Hang Dong and Doi Suthep-area hotels may include a delivery fee.
Chiang Mai traffic is calmer than Bangkok, but the Old City moat roads, one-ways and scooters around markets still demand attention. A rental scooter is useful if you already ride. It is a poor place to learn. Songthaews, Grab and taxis are safer for new riders.
Which scooter for Chiang Mai?
A 125–160cc automatic is the practical default for Nimman cafés, Old City temples and airport-road errands: easy to park, cheap to run, enough for paved city trips. A 300–350cc scooter is more comfortable with a passenger on the Hang Dong road or longer day trips into the foothills. Bikes over 500cc should only be chosen by riders who already know that class. Mountain bends and cooler wet-season roads are unforgiving.
Licence, deposit and documents
To ride legally in Thailand, carry a valid motorcycle licence and an International Driving Permit with the motorcycle endorsement. Helmets are required for rider and passenger.
Listed Chiang Mai rentals use a passport copy and a refundable cash deposit, usually 5,000–10,000 THB. You keep the original passport. Test the brakes, lights and tyres, and record a short video of the bike before you ride.
