Since you've landed on this page, you're probably curious about the motorbike rental process and what to watch out for. My name is Jatie and as a motorbike rental expert in Phuket I'll try to explain everything in this article. Let's get started!
What are the prices for renting a scooter in Phuket?
The rental price depends mainly on the type of scooter and power. If you want to get from point A to B without any hassle a small scooter like the Honda Click 125 (300 Baht/day) will be enough for two people. Next up is the Honda ADV 160 (500 Baht/day), which is our bestseller and highly rated by tourists. Next up is the more powerful and larger Yamaha XMAX 350 (990 Baht/day), and last one very powerful big bike Honda XADV 750 (2000 Baht/day).
Costs usually go down if you rent a motorbike long-term, so it's good to contact the rental company and ask about the final price.
You can find a full list of all the motorbikes for rent in Phuket here.
Are there any additional costs when renting a motorbike in Phuket?
Besides the rental cost you also need to leave a security deposit which is refundable after the rental. Fuel is another expense but it's relatively cheap (35 Baht/liter).
A helmet and phone holder is usually included. I recommend checking if a phone holder is installed as it can make riding much easier especially if you're new on the island and unfamiliar with the roads.
Is it safe to rent a scooter in Phuket?
Motorbike rental in Phuket is safe as long as you know what you are doing and you are responsible, have experience in riding, always wear a helmet, adjust your speed to road conditions and speed limit. Roads in Phuket are very good but sometimes the traffic can be chaotic especially during rush hour in Patong.
When it comes to safety during rental I highly recommend taking photos of the entire scooter. Don't leave your original passport as a deposit. Rental companies usually require copy of your passport which you can make on site.
You need an international motorbike license to ride a motorbike in Thailand. There are many police checkpoints in Phuket so if you don't have the right license, you will have to pay a fine of 1,000 Baht.
That’s why you should be careful and use common sense when renting a motorbike in Phuket.
